A change conversation – the EU’s third clean transition dialogue

In the wake of growing environmental concerns and the urgent need for sustainable technological solutions, the European Commission’s third Clean Transition Dialogue comes at a critical time. Chaired by President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, the roundtable convened 26 representatives from strategic clean technology sectors, including Black Semiconductor’s CEO, Dr. Daniel Schall.

Black Semiconductor’s Vision for Next Generation Chip Technology

As a participant at the European Commission’s Clean Transition Dialogue, Dr. Daniel Schall provided crucial insights into the company’s innovative approach to energy efficiency in semiconductor technologies. Unlike traditional semiconductor processes that are rapidly approaching the limits of energy consumption, Black Semiconductor is leading the use of graphene-based photonic chip networks. These networks are designed to drastically reduce the energy required for high-speed, high-volume data transfer between chips.

Graphene, known for its exceptional optical, electrical, and thermal conductivity, enables our chip networks to operate at lower power levels while maintaining superior performance. By leveraging the unique properties of graphene, Black Semiconductor’s technology minimizes the energy used for data processing and transmission, addressing a critical challenge in the industry: the soaring energy demands of contemporary computing infrastructures.

This focus on energy efficiency is not just about optimizing current consumption; it’s a proactive step towards a change mindset. With the computational demands expected to increase exponentially, existing semiconductor solutions will soon become untenable due to their high energy requirements. Black Semiconductor’s graphene-based solutions offer a path forward that aligns with the European Green Deal’s vision for a sustainable tech industry, ensuring that our growing digital economy remains compatible with our planet’s energy capacities.

Technology and Strategy: Driving Industry Growth

The dialogue centered around enhancing the competitiveness of European industry within strategic clean tech sectors. Key topics included regulatory conditions that enable growth, access to financing for leveraging private investment, and the development of a skilled workforce attuned to both green and digital transitions. Black Semiconductor’s contributions to these discussions highlighted the company’s commitment to these goals and the potential of graphene technology as a cornerstone for clean tech development.

As the Commission prepares for the next stage of the European Green Deal, in partnership with industry leaders, the Clean Transition Dialogues serve as a platform for collaboration and innovation. President von der Leyen’s opening speech, followed by an exchange of views led by Executive Vice-President Šefčovič, set the tone for a future where clean technology and industry growth go hand in hand.

The participation of Black Semiconductor in this critical dialogue underscores the company’s role in shaping a new approach to innovation. With a focus on developing high-performance, energy-efficient solutions, Black Semiconductor is not only contributing to the European Green Deal but also paving the way for a new generation of technological applications.
